About Hailey:

Hailey is a city located in Blaine County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,200. It is also the home of tennis star Mats Wilander. It is also the birthplace of poet Ezra Pound. The city is the county seat of Blaine County. From 1882 to 1895 Hailey was the county seat of now-defunct Alturas County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 km2 (3.2 mi2). 8.2 km2 (3.2 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Hailey Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,200 people, 2,389 households, and 1,603 families residing in the city. The population density is 757.5/km2 (1,959.3/mi2). There are 2,557 housing units at an average density of 312.4/km2 (808.1/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 89.68% White, 0.26% African American, 0.35% Native American, 1.08% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 7.02% from other races, and 1.56% from two or more races. 11.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,389 households out of which 42.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% are non-families. 23.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the city the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 37.4% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 5.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $51,347, and the median income for a family is $56,379. Males have a median income of $37,750 versus $29,025 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,255. 6.1% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
